Americans Abroad: K/Göteberg FC Wins The 2012 Swedish Cup

On Thursday, October 11th, Kopparbergs/Göteberg FC defeated Tyresö FF by a score of 2:1 to win its second Swedish Cup (Svenska Cupen Damer) title in a row (SvFF write-up plus box score, SvFF LiveScore). For Göteberg, American Christen Press scored the opening goal of the match and earned the decisive penalty in extra time. Three other Americans started the match for Göteberg: midfielders Yael Averbuch and Ingrid Wells plus outside back Camille Levin. For Tyresö, another American, Meghan Klingenberg, also started. Brazil’s Marta had the equalizer in regulation for Tyresö. Last year, Göteberg also defeated Tyresö to win the Swedish Cup, albeit on penalties (SvFF). Continue reading

Americans Abroad: Sarah Hagen, Niki Cross, and Gina Lewandowski All Score in German Cup Semifinals

On Sunday and Monday, three Americans participated in the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal der Frauen, or Women’s German Cup. Each of the three Americans — Gina Lewandowski of FFC Frankfurt plus Sarah Hagen and Niki Cross of FC Bayern Munich — scored key goals and helped their teams advance to the German Cup final, which will be held on May 12th in Cologne at the RheinEnergieStadion.

Recent USWNT camp attendee Ingrid Wells scored her first goal for Damallsvenskan side K/Göteborg FC on Saturday in a friendly tournament match versus Östers IF of Sweden’s second highest league (“Division 1”). Göteborg won 4-0, with Wells contributing on all four goals. Continue reading
