USWNT: The USA Defeats China 2:0 in Detroit

On Saturday, in front of a crowd of 17,371, the United States Women’s National Team defeat China by a score of 2 to 0, with goals scored by midfielder Carli Lloyd in the 50th minute — off an assist by second-half sub Tobin Heath — and super-sub forward Sydney Leroux in the 82nd minute. Alex Morgan, who did not start the match, earned her 20th assist of the year on Leroux’s goal, making her only the second player in USWNT history to have 20 goals and 20 assists in a single calendar year. Starting in place of Morgan was Amy Rodriguez, who earned her 100th cap for the USA and wore the captain’s armband. Saturday’s match was neither televised nor streamed online, and there are no readily available highlights, whether official or amateur. USWNT: The USA Defeats Ireland, Again

On Saturday night, the United States Women’s National Team defeated the Republic of Ireland by a score of two goals to none, with Alex Morgan scoring her 28th goal of the year 44 seconds into the match and then adding her 19th assist of the year on a Megan Rapinoe goal. The match was a distinct contrast from the two sides’ previous meeting just three days earlier, where the USA scored five goals, including a hat trick by Morgan. Continue reading

USWNT: The USA Defeat The Republic of Ireland by Five Goals To Nil, Again

On a rainy Wednesday night in Portland, for the fifth time, the United States Women’s National Team defeated the Republic of Ireland by a score of 5 goals to none, with Alex Morgan, who only played 59 minutes, supplying a trio of goals, all in the first half, and her second-half substitute, Sydney Leroux adding two more. Ireland managed just 3 shots to the USA’s 20, with only one of those on goal, compared to 10 for the USA. Continue reading

USWNT: More on Sermanni, Plus Confirmation of the Final Three ‘Fan Tribute’ Matches

On Monday, U.S. Soccer confirmed that the United States Women’s National Team will play China in its final three matches of this year’s Fan Tribute Tour. Those matches will be Saturday, December 8th in Detroit at Ford Field, which is a roofed stadium, Wednesday, December 12th at Houston’s new BBVA Compass Stadium, and Saturday, December 15th, in Boca Raton at Florida Atlantic University.  The December 12th match is now scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Central Time and, as already announced, will be broadcast live on FOX Soccer. TV information for the other two matches is not yet available.

USWNT: The USA Draws 1:1 with Germany in Chicago

Saturday night, in front of a sell-out crowd of 19,522, the United States Women’s National Team drew 1:1 with Germany at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. Abby Wambach scored the USA’s only goal in the 2nd minute when the Americans capitalized on a turnover deep in Germany’s half. Twelve minutes later, Anja Mittag equalized for Germany on a counterattack. Continue reading
